Here are the rules of the lottery (disclaimer: your mileage may vary :-)). Rules subject to change at my slightest whim (this stuff is free, so don't complain...)
- The lottery will be held amongst all registered users who have made their fan registry profile visible, and will be held on the 1st of every month.
- The winner will be randomly (as much as freeBSD can provide a random number) chosen from the eligible registered users.
- The winner of the most recent lottery will be posted on the home page.
- Lottery decisions are final. No arguments, complaints, whines will be accepted.
June and July 2001: Since we missed handing out a prize in June, we decided to combine June and July in handing out two CDs for July. The first winner was Claire aka discodiva from Cheshire, England who chose Earthling as her CD of choice. The second winner was Stephanie from Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. She chose Dido's No Angel as her prize from CDNow.
April 2001: April's winner never responded to emails, and so no CD was given away.
August 2000: HappyGenius was the first August 2000 lottery winner in the fan registry CD giveaway. She chose Ludwig Van Beethoven's Symphony 2/String Quartet 11/Coriolanus. Raven was the second winner, and she chose The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars as a gift for a Bowie-deficient friend!
July 2000: Due to circumstances beyond our control, there was no drawing for July. Instead we will have two winners in August.
February 2000: Strider from London, England was the February 2000 lottery winner in the fan registry CD giveaway. She chose Rage Against The Machine's The Battle of Los Angeles as her prize from CDNow.
June 1999: Koop Mast of The Netherlands was the June 1999 lottery winner in the fan registry CD giveaway. He chose the Live From 6A Conan O'Brien CD from CDNow which includes a live acoustic version of Dead Man Walking.
March 1999 "Mouse" from Leiden, The Netherlands was the March 1999 lottery winner (from over 1040 visible profiles in the fan registry). She chose Buddy Guy's Heavy Love album from CDNow as her prize.
January 1999 Kirill Vertiaev from Moscow, Russia won the revised January 1999 lottery (from over 700 visible profiles in the fan registry). Kirill chose The David Bowie Songbook, a collection of covers from various famous bands.
December 1998 Jamey Baumgardt from Seattle won the December 1998 lottery (from over 5400 entries). Jamey chose John Lennon's Wonsaponatime as his free CD (since he has all the currently available Bowie CDs!)
October 1998 Dana Holness from New Jersey won the October 1998 lottery (from over 5185 entries). Dana chose the I Can't Read single as her prize.
August 1998 Subsumed by the One Million Visitor giveaway.
June 1998 Pedro Giglio from Brazil won the June 1998 lottery (from over 4400 entries). Pedro chose the new Smashing Pumpkins' release Adore (for whom Mike Garson is playing keyboards while on tour). Pedro also has a web page for his band, The Vanilla Rockets.
April 1998 Maurits van Boetzelaer won won the April 1998 lottery. Maurits chose Tonight, the last CD needed to complete his Bowie collection (Ed: I guess if you get it for free, it doesn't sound so bad :))
February 1998 Neil Klopfenstein from Bloomington, Indiana won the February 1998 lottery. Neil chose David Live.
December 1997 Cait Pendergast, from Tyngsborough Massachussets, won the December 1997 lottery. Cait chose the Deram Anthology.
3200 completed surveys: 27 October, 1997 Paul Wayman from Kent, England won the lottery after 3200 completed surveys. Paul chose David Live.
1600 completed surveys: 16 April, 1997 Liat Grovais won the lottery after 1600 completed surveys. Liat chose Ziggy Stardust The Motion Picture.
800 completed surveys: Ella Moore won the lottery after 800 completed surveys. Ella, like SherryeLyn, also chose a copy of the double live album, Stage.
400 completed surveys: Chris Hogenson won the lottery after 400 completed surveys. Chris chose to pick up a copy of the album, Lodger.
200 completed surveys: SherryeLyn was the inaugural winner of the Teenage Wildlife CD lottery for registered users. Sherry chose to pick up a copy of the double album, Stage.
